WhyTwitter is a Chrome extension that helps you manage your Twitter use. It adds a layer of psychological friction by asking you to state your intention before you can access Twitter or X. This allows you to think about why you're opening the site and encourages mindful browsing.

🔍 How It Works

1. Navigate to twitter.com or x.com → Blocked
2. Type why you're opening Twitter (minimum of 5 characters).
3. Access granted for 5 minutes in that tab only.
4. After 5 minutes, the site automatically blocks again.
5. Opening a new tab requires a new reason.

🛠️ Installation

Step 1: Download the Extension

To get started, download the extension by visiting the Releases page. You can either clone the repository or download the ZIP file directly.

Option 1: Clone the Repository

Open your terminal and run the following command:

git clone https://github.com/randomness11/whytwitter.git

Option 2: Download ZIP

Alternatively, click Code → Download ZIP on the repository page and extract the files to your computer.

Step 2: Open Chrome Extensions Page

• Open Chrome and navigate to:

  chrome://extensions/
  

Step 3: Enable Developer Mode

• In the top right corner, toggle Developer mode on.

Step 4: Load the Unpacked Extension

• Click on Load unpacked.
• Select the folder where you extracted the ZIP file or cloned the repository.

Step 5: Check if It's Working

• After loading, navigate to twitter.com or x.com. You should see the block screen prompting you to state your intention.
