Feature request: A serial port in plugin mode

Hi!

For some art projects I use plug data to get data from a serial port (currently using the comport external) into PD. This of course doesn't work in a DAW with Plug Data currently, but it would be so cool if we could do that! Or would that be impossible because of sandboxing?

As usual, I could add this into ELSE and already had plans to add serial support, actually.

Max has [serial] right? seems like something to support natively (this and [hid]...)

Maybe [comport] can also be built in, if it proves to be useful?

Not sure what limitations might apply. Plugin context is different from standalone right.
