Marine Traffic (AIS) layer no longer working

Since reporting issues with inconsistency #163 in 2022, it appears that the data feed for the Marine Traffic Layer in OpenSeaMap has developed a fault perhaps due to dependencies, been disabled deliberately by a decision within OpenSeaMap or been blocked at source? If so, other that in issue #63 which pre-dated periods of time when this feature was still operating where is this being discussed?
I would normally expect to see traffic displayed in busy areas such as the English Channel at any time of day or night but I am seeing nothing using Edge or Chrome. If anyone is seeing anything different anywhere in the world do please comment below.

We used the AIS tiles from https://tiles.marinetraffic.com/ . That site and service does not seem to exist anymore. If you know of another free service serving AIS traffic, then maybe we can switch to that.

Good suggestion. AIS would only be available for users that have registered with the services; they would have to obtain an API key and register that with the osm app (to be stored in local storage).
